Hmmm.
My rule for weddings is to go by the bride and groom. If they are planning a super fancy, vry black tie event, then you gotta suck it up and sweat it out in a suit. If they’re pretty casual then you can go casual.
What you’re thinking of sounds pretty good. I’d say bring a jacket just in case. There’s no harm in over-dressing. You can always take the jacket off or lose the tie to dress it down. Plus if a cute girl gets a little chilly during the reception, you got a nice jacket to drape over her shoulders, right?
So yeah, I’d say that sounds good. Personally, I’d go with the espadrilles over the purcells, but that’s just me. I might even rock some white tassel loafers or dirty bucks. Just no flip flops or sandals. I might even wear navy chinos too, but that’s only ‘cause I ain’t the type to bring sand to the beach.
Again, just ask the bride and groom. They’ll appreciate that you are actually taking the time out to make sure that you’re appropriate for a very special day in their lives.
Remember though, weddings that aren’t yours are not the times to be stunting-leave the shine for the bride and groom. You’re there to hold doors, help old people, make jokes with kids’ table, drink at the open bar, and wish the newlyweds all the happiness and love in the universe.
“Pathetically thin”? Girl you fine just the way you are.
If I had one day, I’d definitely hit up Nepenthes if you got the cash. In my opinion Nepenthes does the ‘whole girls wearing dudes’ clothes’ thing the best. I’m pretty sure they stock FWK by Engineered Garments, one of my favorite women’s wear lines.
Again, if money aint no object, hit up 45RPM too. Awesome gear. Girls in 45 RPM are like next next level.
I like the stuff Carhartt WIP has too. So check out that shop.
Why not hit up the Gant store too?
For designer gear, just go to Bergdorffs.
Definitely swing by Self Edge.
I always thought Billy Reid’s guy stuff sized down for girls would look dope too.
I recommend Epaulet, UNIS, and Steven Alan.
For streetwear stuff, go to Supreme, DQM, and Reed Space.
I really like what APC does for women, and of course all the guys’ stuff looks better on girls anyway.
If you’re at APC might as well hit up Rag + Bone too. I like their jeans for girls.
If you want ninja gear, hit up Atelier. I dare you not to start subconsciously whispering once you walk in.
The Commes des Garcons store too. It’s kind of out of the way, but at the very least you can just spray yourself with their amazing fragrances and smell AWESOME for the rest of your day in Manhattan. Girls in CDG are certified kryptonite.
I’d swing by both the men’s and women’s INA spots too-they have some dope stuff on consignment there.
Oh, check out the Nike Stadium on Bowery too. Nike Sportswear is sick. So is the undercover stuff. Get yourself some next level leggings there. Then robocop lunarglides and boys will stutter when they try and talk to you.
Make sure you hit up Hickoree’s and The Joinery as well, if you can make it out to Brooklyn.
Ummm…that’s all I can think of. Basically, that’d be my list of I was shopping for a girl in NYC. Everybody feel free to add to this list in the notes.
The red one? That’s Supreme.
